The Free State of Bavaria wants to lure teachers and educators from Austria across the border. Financial treats beckon – and especially a significantly higher starting salary.
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has promised something: to bring more educators, especially teachers, to Bavaria’s educational institutions. The level-headed, eloquent politician does not fail to do so. Not even at the national border. Soon more teachers from Austria, especially from Salzburg, will teach the students in Bavaria. Austrian teachers’ unions are alarmed and are demanding higher salaries to keep up with their neighbours.
Söder also wants teachers from other German states
About 400 red-white-red teachers are currently teaching across the border in Germany. Significantly higher monthly salaries, starting at twelve times EUR 4,774 gross, one-off bonuses and relocation assistance are available from the Free State for Austrian educators. Söder is becoming increasingly unpopular with his measures. The prime minister is poaching teachers from other German states – completely against custom.
