In parliament tour – pensioner holds on to golden piano

Date:

A shabby member of Wandel clung to a golden piano during a parliamentary tour of the renovated parliament building on Tuesday. For the pensioner and the Change Party, the piano of National Council Chairman Wolfgang Sobotka is a symbol of parliament’s decadent detachment.

“Our politics have gone so far that about one million people in Austria are now stricken with poverty. The rich and over-rich, on the other hand, continue to court. This piano perfectly reflects this absurd system: the president of the National Council provides a gilded piano at our expense, while children in our country live in poverty. That is just wrong’, party leader Fayad Mulla explains the protest action.

‘The daily shopping becomes a torture’
In a pointed speech, the focus was on people who can hardly afford normal groceries anymore: “It’s been a long time since we were poor. People can no longer pay their bills far into the middle class. Daily shopping becomes torture because we can hardly afford the groceries anymore. And what do our representatives do about it? Nothing!”

Poverty must end immediately
The change aims to immediately end poverty in one of the richest countries in the world. “The change wants to introduce a basic income for everyone without conditions – so that we people and we as a society can take a huge step towards freedom, security and prosperity for all. And in doing so, of course, the rich must finally be brought to the cash register, where they have been for decades haven’t been seen in years,” concludes Mulla.

The man was released from the piano. Nothing and no one was injured.
