Because former politician Peter Pilz allegedly told the ÖVP corruption committee an untruth, he was investigated for months. In an anonymous complaint, Pilz was accused of lying to the Commission of Inquiry about his relationship with a former BVT official. The Public Prosecution Service in Vienna has since discontinued the preliminary investigation.
The reason for the investigation was the relationship between Peter Pilz and Egisto Ott, a former civil servant at the Federal Office for Constitutional Protection and Counter Terrorism (BVT). It was speculated time and time again that Pilz might have information from Ott. He was questioned about this on March 3, 2022 in the ÖVP-U commission.
Anonymous ad speaks of “lies”
There he stated that he had only personally known Egisto Ott since mid-2019. The statement was then presented as a “lie” in an anonymous advertisement. The drafter of the statement of facts claimed that Pilz had already received information from Ott in 2009 about the Kurdish murders in Vienna. The criminal file of the ex-BAT officer also states that in 2018 he would have prepared questions for Peter Pilz in connection with the BAT Commission of Inquiry.
Already in July, when the investigations against him became known, Pilz had spoken of a “legal scandal” and an insubstantial complaint. The public prosecutor’s office in Vienna has since closed the investigation.
False statement “unverifiable”
No real reason for further prosecution is seen, as a false statement by the ex-politician as an information provider “was not traceable”, according to a letter to Peter Pilz’s lawyer.
