Last year, the executive branch “explicitly” condemned the massacre for the first time and sent a representative to the event, the Secretary of State for Democratic Memory.
The Minister for the Presidency, Relations with the Parliament and Democratic Memory of the Government of Spain, Felix Bolanoswill participate in the wreath-laying ceremony this Wednesday to mark the 86th anniversary of the bombing of Gernika, executive sources have reported to the EITB.
It will therefore be the first time that a minister has attended this tribute, after the government sent the Secretary of State for Democratic Remembrance, Fernando Martínez López, in 2022.
Last year the Spanish government convicted first and in particular the bombing of Gernika, in an institutional statement marking the 85th anniversary of the barbarism.
The lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu, sent a letter to the President of the Executive Branch, Pedro Sánchez, two years ago asking him to attend the tribute.
