The Court of Auditors (RH) published all party donations from January to March 2023 on Tuesday with NEOS data. The quarterly notification to the RH is part of the transparency rules that were tightened at the beginning of this year. The RH announces donations from 500 euros on its homepage.
The NEOS received the most with 34,800 euros, followed by the ÖVP (13,240), SPÖ (6,122) and the Greens (5,230). The FPÖ received only a one-off donation of 2,500 euros. While the quarterly reports are intended to ensure that smaller donations are disclosed quickly, large donations during election campaigns (National Council and European elections) must continue to be published immediately.
The ÖVP and the Greens lowered the limit for this with the reform of the party law from 2645 to 2500 euros.
NEOS as endowment emperor
Besides the ÖVP, only the NEOS passed this threshold with two donations of about 3000 euros each. By far the largest donation of the first quarter, 15,000 euros, came from the “BREG Company for Construction and Revitalization” and went to NEOS.
In addition to contractor Hans Peter Haselsteiner, who has been a well-known supporter of NEOS for some time, his wife is also listed as director of the construction company.
Politicians donated to their own parties
With 5000 euros, the second highest one-time donation went to NEOS – from the pink top candidate in the state elections in Salzburg, Andrea Klambauer. But she is not the only prominent politician to donate to her own party, Felix Eypeltauer (NEOS) also did the same.
The green mayor of Innsbruck, Georg Willi, supported the green student organization GRAS with 1000 euros. The SPÖ also made two donations of 1000 euros each to student organization VSSTÖ in connection with the current ÖH election campaign, including one from former Transport Minister Rudolf Streicher.
