According to its own information, the Ministry of the Interior is pushing for the repatriation of Indian citizens whose asylum procedure in Austria has been legally negatively completed. So far, 68 people have been repatriated.
Following the end of visa-free access for Indian citizens through Serbia and due to the new bilateral agreements with India, the repatriation of Indians would be consistently pursued, the Interior Ministry announced this weekend. “The recently signed mobility agreement with India is a precondition for swift and consistent returns and deportations. These measures will destroy the traffickers’ business and prevent abuse of asylum,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
So far there have been four charter operations with a total of 68 people repatriated. In addition, individual repatriations to India take place. Overall, the Federal Office of Immigration and Asylum has deported 257 Indian nationals this year — 180 of them voluntarily and 77 forcibly, the Interior Ministry said. Asylum procedures have been completed with a final and negative result for all persons returned to India from Austria. Currently, the acceptance rate is zero percent. Therefore, about 80 percent of checks are carried out in rapid or expedited procedures. According to the Ministry of the Interior in Austria, about 19,000 Indians will have applied for international protection by 2022.
