Polls show that the SPÖ has no brilliant values. So Kickl is way ahead. But there are also other interpretations.
Euphoria also has brakes. A survey conducted by Unique for “profile” claims to have acknowledged this. In the well-known Sunday question, the new SPÖ boss Babler only gets 20 percent. Pastor Pamela Rendi-Wagner was 23 percent in May. Under Herbert Kickl, the FPÖ would currently be far ahead – by 30 percent. Behind that, the ÖVP is recovering by at least 24 percent. The Blues don’t seem to have to do much more than wait.
It makes no sense for the chairman of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, to complain about the “unquestionable and NS-related” choice of words of FPÖ people in parliament. Sobotka calls the examples “role command” and “system parties” (Hitler wanted to sweep these out of parliament) and is appalled that he sometimes stands there as a lone voice in the desert. That there is no outrage from other parties except the blue one.
Blue high remains stable
Kickl doesn’t care. He remains at the top of the polls, in reality the high is also evident in government participation in Upper Austria, Lower Austria and most recently Salzburg.
But there are also other reviews. OGM (Wolfgang Bachmayer) and IFDD (Christoph Haselmayer) see the SPÖ better than Unique. Haselmayer had the SPÖ at 26 percent before the party congress. “After the fights, you lost about two percent. I currently see the SPÖ at 23 to 24 percent and expect three parties to be nearly evenly strong by the end of the 2024 election campaign. At the expense of the little ones.” The SPÖ had “crossed Mount Everest in shame”.
