The first statement of a victim of Francoism in Madrid on July 14, 2023 is suspended

Date:

The new judge assigned to the case believes there are edges and should re-examine the case of Julio Pacheco Yepes, a victim of Francoism who had filed a torture complaint.

This morning has been discontinued in Madrid the one that would become the first statement of a victim of Francoism in the Spanish courts. Julio Pacheco Yepes filed a complaint for crimes committed by the Franco regime and today he was summoned to testify in the courts of Plaza de Castilla, together with a witness.

They did, however, receive a message upon arrival that the declaration has been suspended because “a new judge has been assigned to the casea reinforcement judge, who believes that the cause has edges and that he should reconsider the matter.”

Lawyer de Pacheco, Jacinto Lara, confirmed that the judge’s explanation was “bizarre and inappropriate” and that they will “file the corresponding pleas so that the situation can be reversed”. However, he has admitted that “this music sounds really bad; it sounds like the frameworks of impunity maintained by the Spanish state preventing the investigation of this kind of crime.”

Julio Pacheco Yepes was arrested on August 24, 1975 in Madrid during an operation against the Anti-Fascist and Patriotic Revolutionary Front (FRAP) when he was 19 years old. He was transferred to the headquarters of the General Directorate of Security and denounced it Tortured for 7 daysfor which he has filed a complaint against several Franco police officers, including Commissioner José Manuel Villarejo.
