National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP) supports the federal government’s proposal for a zero wage round for all top politicians in the federal government. However, he opposes the wishes of FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl, who would also continue this zero wage round in countries with a constitutional majority in the National Council.
One should not conclude from partisan disagreements on the whole, he spoke to the APA about the internal dispute between the Freedom Party on this issue. “When you have an extraordinary burden, in challenging times you have to lead by example and lead by example,” Sobotka said of the zero pay round for federal politicians. The federal states had made their own decision, which had to be accepted. “That’s okay too,” says the chairman of the National Council.
Nepp stands behind Kickl
However, Viennese FPÖ boss Dominik Nepp spoke out again in the “Presse” against a salary increase in the country. “During the last increase in politicians’ salaries, which took effect on January 1, I already said: I will not do it because I think it is not right – especially in Vienna, where, as a result of the inflation avalanche of the SPÖ, no longer know how to pay their heating, electricity and food bills. I find it indigestible to give yourself a raise.”
