Not “correct benchmark” – Kickl’s Stasi comparison for Sobotka “disturbing”

Date:

The comparison of the windowless room in parliament with a ‘Stasi interrogation room’ continues to cause a stir. Now the chairman of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP), spoke out in the debate – and was outraged. “It’s not just a disturbing comparison, it’s an expression of the fact that you’ve really lost your temper,” says Sobotka.

The FPÖ boss had taken the opportunity during the ORF summer talks to criticize the setting of this. He said it doesn’t offer the best atmosphere and has the “hard charm” of a “Stasi interrogation room.”

Renovated in the 50’s
Sobotka was outraged on Wednesday: after all, it was about a room in the Austrian parliament that was being renovated because of a bomb attack in the 1950s.

Kickl’s statements lack any understanding of history and must be utterly rejected. “Especially after this summer’s overheating, it is necessary for us to find the right balance again.”

“ÖVP Sun King”
“Most disturbing are the bizarre actions of the Chairman of the National Council,” countered the FPÖ leader in a broadcast – calling Sobotka the “ÖVP Sun King”. For example, FPÖ Secretary General Christian Hafenecker recalled “the parliament’s rally for a minority program in the LGBTQ community” or the “monkey dance around the golden wing”.

The words of the chairman of the National Council would soon no longer be relevant, “because after the next election, the sun will have set on the president.”
