In an interview on krone.tv, Lower Austrian State Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister, responsible for education, social affairs and housing, analyzes the care needs in her state in clear terms: “We need more than 9,000 new nurses by 2030. That is because we all get older.”
With this increasing age, the need for care is growing: ‘That is why it is also important to offer nursing staff a good working environment and to keep them working for a long time.’ However, the regional councilor is optimistic that the necessary personnel needs in Lower Austria can be met. In principle, much of the necessary care is not provided in retirement homes: “More than 90 percent of people in need of care are cared for at home. Because that’s what they want.”
Schools: “All lessons can continue!”
Teschl-Hofmeister has positive news for the Lower Austrian school sector: “All classes can continue, we have enough teachers. In Lower Austria the ‘Class.Job’ campaign was a success, enough career changers were found who could also bring a lot of knowledge from the jobs they had previously held to the school classes.”
Smaller group sizes will be sought in the future in the nursery sector. This means that about 2,300 new primary school teachers are needed for about 600 new groups across the country. “Training has already started, we will also approach this problem positively,” said Teschl-Hofmeister.
Many other topics, such as how ‘affordable housing’ is promoted in Lower Austria and how the cooperation between the ÖVP and FPÖ works within the state government can be seen in the video above.
