Big bang after leak – ORF ends cooperation with SORA during elections

Date:

The latest data breach at the SPÖ is now having consequences. The ORF is immediately terminating its collaboration with the opinion research institute SORA in the field of reporting on elections. It’s about credibility and objectivity, as it sounded on the radio on Wednesday afternoon.

The SORA Institute is currently trying to get orders from the SPÖ, but this only became known because a strategy document for the comrades was sent to 800 wrong recipients, krone.at reported. Reason enough for the ÖVP and FPÖ to call on the ORF to cease cooperation with the data house – the ORF has now complied with this request.

“Especially during elections, credibility and objectivity in ORF reporting are essential, and any appearance of one-sidedness must be avoided,” the ORF said.

The public media company’s move takes effect immediately. This affects cooperation in the field of election research, projections and analyses. It was emphasized that SORA’s previous projections had been highly accurate and that “there was never any indication of party political bias”.

It is not yet clear with whom the ORF will collaborate on this matter in the future. In the document by SORA social researcher Günther Ogris, which is also available for the “Krone”, a shadow cabinet was designed for SPÖ party leader Andreas Babler. Both SPÖ and SORA had explained that it was a presentation made without a contractual relationship.
