In the krone.tv interview, renowned migration researcher Judith Kohlenberger analyzes the current migration situation with clear words: “The problem will not disappear by just building walls around Europe. On the contrary, the rampant climate crisis is a clear driver of migration and will further increase the willingness to emigrate to Africa, for example. or never” effect, because it may soon be too late to escape because of the deals.
The overland route, for example via the Balkans, is becoming increasingly difficult due to the many checks and ‘pushbacks’. That is why the dangerous route across the Mediterranean is currently often chosen: “The various migration routes change very often, which is why it is very difficult to predict which route will be used frequently in the future and which will be used less intensively.”
Kohlenberger also puts into perspective the impression that Italy has recently spread: “The right-wing Italian government led by Giorgia Meloni acts as if the country is completely overrun with migrants. If we look closely at the current situation, Italy would even have to take in refugees to keep pace with countries like Germany, Austria and Denmark.”
It would be important to also see and accept the opportunities created by migration: “Especially in sectors where many low-skilled jobs are offered, migrants could replace missing local workers. For example in tourism, where dishwashers are also required. So everyone benefits from migration.”
In the video above you can see many more explosive topics, such as whether 100 million Africans could actually come to Europe.
