Congress in committee approves ‘only yes is yes’ law, which will not punish brothel owners

Date:

The measure failed to convince formations like ERC, EH Bildu, CUP, Junts, Ciudadanos or PNV, neither because of their stance on prostitution, nor because of their desire to address this issue in a more specific way in a separate regulation.

The Congressional Equality Commission has approved the advice of the report of the Sexual Freedom Guarantee Act, known as the “only yes is yes” law, although its wording will not include the locative third party chargeback.

This measure, which punishes brothel owners with up to 3 years in prison, as well as the closure of the premises, convinced formations such as ERC, EH Bildu, CUP, Junts, Ciudadanos or PNVeither because of her stance on prostitution, or because of the desire that this issue be settled in a more specific way in a separate settlement.

For this reason, these parties have signed an amendment, promoted by the PNV and negotiated with Igualdad (Unidas Podemos), to delete from the law the two articles related to the locative third and which has finally continued with the support of the signatories plus the PSOE.

The full text of the opinion has been endorsed by all political groups, except for PP and Vox So the norm continues despite the fact that at the beginning of the day was at risk because of the PSOE .s intent to continue with the PP an amendment that it tightened penalties for prostitution and that the government’s partners in Congress did not support it.

It is this measure that focused the debate during the Commission session and led many spokespersons to express their doubts about whether or not to support the text if this initiative were eventually passed into law.

The PNV spokesperson in this debate, Joseba Agirretexeahas criticized that “some” have “wanted to use this law” so that the parties “position themselves on this issue” and that they are trying to settle a debate like the one on prostitution with a “some punitive” amendment.

“Nobody agrees that the purpose of this law is ‘only if it’s yes’. Why did we twist it?” the Basque delegate remarked.

Her counterpart of EH Bildu, Call Pozuetameanwhile, the “intransigence” of the socialists on prostitution has distorted and that they “agree with the PP, knowing that this formation jeopardizes the law”.

“They have reached an agreement with a group that is questioning the existence of sexist violence and prioritizing other interests by agreeing with Vox to lead autonomous communities,” he lamented.
