A small decision in the National Council now could have major consequences for our communities. And unfortunately also negative effects on the environment. The Minister of Climate, of all people, gave Asfinag carte blanche to seal the green spaces along the highways. All this, of course, under the guise of eco-energy.
But everything is fine: Since the Green Party’s Ministry of Climate Protection, Leonore Gewessler, is also responsible for the traffic agendas, the department head apparently wanted to kill two birds with one stone. And assigned Asfinag to install kilometers of PV systems along the not exactly ecologically valuable highways. What for some is a simple ‘greenwashing’ of gray concrete strips, for others is a successful synergy. The aim is to use the already closed areas to produce energy from renewable sources.
