Green MP Clemens Stammler is resigning from his National Council mandate and his mandate in the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture. The reason for this is said to be a fight that happened to him the week before while he was drunk.
“I hereby announce that I will immediately resign from my National Council mandate and my mandate in the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture. Last week I became violent while drunk on the night from Thursday to Friday. “That was a terrible mistake that should not have happened,” Clemens Stammler wrote in a written statement.
Journalists injured trachea
By resigning, he wants to draw conclusions from his personal misconduct. “I have already spoken to everyone involved in the incident, I told them that I am very sorry and asked for their forgiveness,” Stammler emphasizes. On October 19, he allegedly harassed a representative of an NGO and injured the trachea of a journalist outside the trendy Viennese club U4. The police were called to assist and recorded the incident. The hospital where the journalist was treated filed a complaint.
Wants to seek professional help
His behavior that evening made it clear to him that everything in his life was apparently not in order, Groen emphasizes. “I want to face this, deal with my mistake and seek professional help for it. I never want to be the way I behaved on Thursday again,” Stammler finally explains.
The Greens welcome resignation
The Upper Austrian Greens have since issued the following statement on the incident: “Clemens Stammler has today clearly and unequivocally publicly apologized for this incident. He takes responsibility for his misconduct and therefore takes the right step, because the actions taken are incompatible with the office, reputation and requirements of a representative of the people. The Upper Austrian Greens welcome this clear decision and would like to thank Clemens Stammler for his great commitment to his green policy work in Upper Austria and in the National Council, and wish him all the best for his future.”
