There is great sadness in Tyrol over the news of the death of former Federal Council President Helmut Kritzinger. He died on Saturday at the age of 95 in his South Tyrolean birthplace of Sarnthein. Kritzinger was co-founder of the Tyrolean Senior Citizens’ Association.

As announced on Sunday, Helmut Kritzinger, former chairman of the Federal Council and former city councilor of Innsbruck and honorary chairman of the Tyrolean Senior Citizens Association, Helmut Kritzinger, has passed away. Kritzinger had to leave his South Tyrolean home in 1963 and founded the Tyrolean Senior Citizens’ Association on behalf of Governor Eduard Wallnöfer.

“With Helmut Kritzinger we lose a very great Tyrolean, who was a deeply political person and for whom the concerns of seniors and the close cooperation between the state of Tyrol and South Tyrol in the Euroregion Tyrol were his life’s work,” it said. chairman Patrizia Zoller-Frischauf.

Long political career
From 1983 to 2018 he was also a member of the Innsbruck city council. From 2002 to 2008 he was a member of the Federal Council in Vienna. The highlight of his political career was the presidency of the Federal Council, which Kritzinger held in the first half of 2008.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, November 2 at 2 p.m. in his home community of Sarnthein.
