Sexual assistance – hand-knit law for conservative countries

Date:

To enable sexual assistance or support for people with disabilities who cannot achieve their sexual needs without the help of others, the Moral Police Act must now be amended.

Sex work was decriminalized in Austria as early as the 1970s. This is allowed in approved brothels in all states. However, there is officially none in Vorarlberg. Furthermore, the “practice of commercial fornication” – as it is called in the Moral Police Act – is prohibited outside licensed brothels. To ensure that people with disabilities can meet their sexual needs, so-called sexual assistants or sexual companions have been available in other states for years. However, in the conservative state these apparently somewhat disreputable services cannot be used; instead, the responsible members of the state parliament have been struggling for years to find a viable solution.
