The Ministry of Education launched a training offensive last year to recruit more staff for kindergartens. Among other things, the transition of career changers must be made easier. Now the aptitude test for admission to educational institutions for primary and social education is also being reformed.
This means that the rhythm no longer has to be repeated and the sports and drawing parts are no longer necessary. Diversity must be promoted, among other things, according to the explanatory notes to a regulation from the Ministry of Education.
Four-hour aptitude test
Anyone who wants to start training to become a nursery teacher must currently take an aptitude test of a maximum of four hours. This currently consists of four parts: the musical ability to form, the ability to create, the physical agility and resilience and the contact and communication skills are tested. In the future, only the ability to make contact and communicate should remain.
Singing a melody is no longer necessary
The parts of the exam that require clapping a rhythm or singing a melody are omitted. Proof of swimming skills and, for example, a running or agility run with a final somersault are no longer required. The same applies to checking fine motor skills and ‘creative’ skills, for example by means of a drawing.
What remains is proof of contact and communication skills. “The focus of the aptitude test should be on social-communication skills, such as personality development, reflection on one’s own behavior or behavior in the group,” the explanatory notes say. The duration of the test should still remain the same.
