Farmers on barricades – How EU seed reform endangers varietal diversity

As is known, a seed reform will be voted on on Tuesday in Brussels during a meeting of the EU Agriculture Commission. Greenpeace sees a huge decline for local farmers. The “Krone” spoke with ÖVP mandate and farmer Alexander Bernhuber about the vote. What it is about and who really benefits from it.

Just six weeks ago, local farmers made their voices heard before the EU Parliament in Brussels. On the day of the special EU summit, farmers rode on their tractors and honked their horns through the Belgian capital to protest against agricultural regulations, high costs and lots of bureaucracy. A lot is at stake for the farmers on Tuesday.
