Program presented – The Greens campaign for the European elections with “heart instead of agitation”.

Date:

Green top candidate Lena Schilling and party leader Werner Kogler presented their EU election manifesto on Thursday. The focus is on climate policy, democracy, human rights and progress. What is needed is a good renaturation law and an EU-wide age limit of 16 for European elections.

Climate change is “the most difficult issue we have to solve,” top candidate Lena Schilling said on Thursday. In the field of climate policy, the Greens advocate, among other things, a rate for train routes between two European capitals (maximum ten cents per kilometer), a good renaturation law and 40,000 new wind turbines. According to Kogler, Europe must provide itself completely with self-produced, clean energy.

Schilling is also concerned about involving young people in politics. The election manifesto aims to support youth organizations with more funding and examine legislative proposals regarding their impact on future generations. The Greens also want to convince the member states of a voting age of 16 in the European elections.

Amplify critical voices
One chapter is called ‘Heart Instead of Agitation’. It states that critical voices such as journalists and activists from authoritarian regimes such as Russia must be strengthened. The EU must receive these people and protect and support them with all its might.

In the field of asylum and migration policy, faster procedures and a fair distribution key are needed. “So far, Austria has had to take much more responsibility than Hungary or Slovakia,” Schilling said. “We cannot save the world alone, but if Europe does not take the lead, we will have a problem,” Kogler said.
