After thirty years at ORF, former editor-in-chief Matthias Schrom is now leaving the company – at his own request, so it is said. The explosive talks with ex-FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache had previously been his undoing.
The signature of general manager Roland Weißmann and Matthias Schrom sealed the (amicable) end of a successful ORF career. After more than thirty years, the former editor-in-chief of ORF 2’s TV information is leaving the channel at his own request.
Last exit
As reported, after sensitive late-night political intervention conversations between the then FPÖ boss Strache and him became known (“Those who believe they have to save the SPÖ are becoming fewer and fewer” or “ORF 1 is much more left”) in November 2022, he resigned , but remained at the state radio as head of the ‘Smart Producing’ project.
Now the final departure: 51-year-old Schrom wants to start his career again. The decision has nothing to do with new evaluations of short messages on mobile phones with the deposed former blue grandee. The ORF “wishes you all the best for the future”.
