The Spanish Treasury investigates the emeritus king of Spain for hunting costs to which he was invited after his abdication in 2014. The Treasury would also demand justification for spending of “a lesser amount he received in a personal capacity,” such as “symbolic gifts made by businessmen” close to whoever was the head of state.
On the other hand, the King Emeritus of Spain has confirmed that he will not return to Sanxenxo this week to attend the sailing regattas to be held in the coming days, “strictly private reasons”. This would be his second trip to Spain in less than a month since moving to Abu Dhabi in August 2020.
