For his part, Euskal Herria Bai (EH Bai) expressed her willingness last Monday to participate in this front, which she described as ‘historic’. “We welcome the formation of a popular front that unites all left forces,” Iparralde’s sovereigntist coalition noted.
“With a government program and unique candidacies in the constituencies of France, the political forces that formed the new Popular Front will meet the French on June 30 and July 7,” according to a statement released by the Socialist Party on your social media profile.
The aim of this alliance is “to implement a program of social and ecological ruptures to build an alternative to Macron and combat the racist project of the far right.”
The former socialist president Francois Hollandewho occupied the Elysée between 2012 and 2017, has expressed satisfaction with the agreement as “the left has a duty to unite” to stop the far right.
“Since the liberation (from the Nazi occupation in 1944/45), the far right has never been so close to coming to power,” Hollande warned in an interview on the TF1 channel.
That possibility “creates a hazard” and “it is not only a problem for France, but also for France’s image and for the proposals that France can make in Europe,” he stressed. “We must do everything possible to prevent the far right from coming to power in France,” Hollande emphasized.
The name of the union is that of the Popular Fronta coalition formed in 1935 by several left-wing parties in response to the expansion of fascism in Europe and which won an absolute majority in the Chamber of Deputies in the 1936 elections, although it disappeared in 1938.
