Criticism of Gewessler: the Chancellor’s election goal? “I want to be the first!”

Date:

Despite some differences of opinion with the Greens (climate plan, ban on combustion engines, renaturation law), Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) wants to stick to the turquoise-green coalition until the end of the legislature. In the “ZiB 2” on Thursday evening, the ÖVP leader also announced his declared goal in the elections for the National Council on September 29: “Of course I want to come first!”

In any case, a free play of power in the National Council until the elections is no problem for Nehammer. He knows from experience that the parties will then promise billions, which would have a negative impact on the budget.

“Gewessler does not speak on behalf of Austria”
Although he wanted to continue to form a coalition with the Greens, he renewed his criticism of Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) after her solo effort in Brussels regarding the renaturation law. “It was right to show that Gewessler does not speak for Austria here. She has broken the law. Your misconduct will cause a lot of problems for Austria.”

That is why the ÖVP has also filed a complaint against the Green Minister and brought an action for annulment before the Court of Justice.

Nevertheless, Nehammer defended his decision not to dismiss Gewessler from the government. “I promised the people of our country that this government would serve until the end and that there would be stability instead of chaos. I made sure of that.”

Nehammer was skeptical, however, about whether he would be able to work with Gewessler again in a new government. “By her behavior, she took herself out of the game.”
