Negotiations necessary
Many users see it as a given that countries must take back their own citizens during repatriation and were surprised that agreements are needed for this. Also krone.at users Cat’s Tongue2 considers negotiations with the Taliban, who have been in power in Afghanistan since 2021, inevitable.
Negotiating with extremists?
Some readers are also concerned about negotiations with an Islamist terrorist group Lillith73 notes – she fears that this will promote a certain acceptance of the regime.
Why now?
Several “Krone” readers complain that this proposal is only being made now, shortly before the elections. They suspect that empty campaign promises are behind the announcement, since the FPÖ was already in government and no negotiations took place in previous government periods.
