As expected, the Greens are focusing on climate protection in the National Council election campaign: “Trees or concrete?” and “Climate or crisis?” The motto “Vote as if there is tomorrow” should also be understood as a call for hope and trust, explained Vice Chancellor and Green Party leader Werner Kogler.
The Greens’ first wave of advertising cost almost 1.5 million euros. In addition to two radio spots, the Greens are now campaigning for votes on four issues, including Kogler himself, calling on people to vote for ‘reason and trust’. “We are thinking of tomorrow and future generations,” Kogler emphasized during the presentation in the Herrmann beach bar on the Vienna Danube Canal.
Kogler: “No climate protection costs much more”
A healthy climate and a healthy nature are the necessary basis for life, but in Austria too much is covered with concrete, he again pleaded for renaturation. Climate protection measures cost money, Kogler admitted, but “no climate protection costs much more.”
After storms, there is always a disaster area somewhere between Lake Constance and Lake Neusiedl, currently in Hollabrunn or at the Arlberg – “no one can say anymore that the climate crisis is some kind of fantasy,” said Kogler. The combination of climate protection “with economic reason and trust” and a “world of togetherness” only exists with the Greens, said Kogler.
Kogler doesn’t care about competition
His party is “the best offer”. Looking at the competition makes it safe, says Kogler, who launched a large-scale attack on the other parties. The ÖVP pays tribute to the combustion engine, and the Freedom Party are “friends of Putin” and “traitors”.
With the Greens in government, however, more has been done for climate and nature conservation than in the past 45 years. Kogler listed various measures that have been implemented. “Green works, you can trust green, we are an enforcement party,” that is why we need to be strengthened in the elections.
