After the elections Edtstadler remains loyal to Vienna, Salzburg is not an option

Date:

Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP) wants to continue governing after the elections, but not at any price. She will not seek a ministerial role with coalition partner Kickl. She also does not want to become Wilfried Haslauer’s successor…

On Saturday she jumped out of a plane high above Salzburg and on Sunday she was a guest at the national youth jubilee festival St. Michael im Lungau. Karoline Edtstadler is in election campaign mode. The constitutional minister, who is number one on the ÖVP state party list in Salzburg, is doing her best.

“Not with Herbert Kickl”
As usual, she is cautious and not very specific when it comes to statements about the period after the elections, but she is clear on some issues. “First there are elections, then possible agreements between the parties will be examined,” says Edtstadler, who still has her main residence in the city of Salzburg. “There are various options, but one thing is clear: not with Herbert Kickl at the ministerial table.” The 43-year-old has already had this experience.

The lawyer does not completely rule out a professional and political return to Salzburg. “But that is not my goal.” And for the time after Wilfried Haslauer as governor of the state? “I fully support Stefan Schnöll,” she says.
