Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has declined a second debate with rival Kamala Harris, as the Democrat continues to widen her lead in the polls.
“THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social on Thursday. There was no immediate comment from Harris.
Why third? Trump had his first campaign debate with incumbent President Joe Biden. His poor performance led to Biden handing the nomination to his Vice President, Harris. Trump and Harris then met for a live televised debate on Tuesday night (local time). In a Reuters/Ipsos poll on Thursday, a majority of respondents said Harris won the televised duel.
Harris extends lead
According to the same institute, the Democrat has increased her lead over the Republican after the first televised duel between the American presidential candidates. According to the study published on Thursday, the incumbent vice president now leads the former head of state by 47 percent to 42 percent. At the end of August, she was four percentage points ahead.
The two-day poll also showed that a majority – 53 percent – see Harris as the winner of the debate on Tuesday night (local time). Trump was 24 percent. A close result is expected in the vote on November 5.
