In an interview in Euskadi Irratia, the jeltzale Joseba Díez Antxustegi accused EH Bildu of lying about the election of the members of the Gogora Institute. The sovereigntist coalition, through Oihana Etxebarrieta, has accused him of making ‘malicious’ use of the information.
The designation of Gogora Board of Directors Last Wednesday, he once again highlighted the differences that still exist in terms of memory between the parties that make up the Basque Parliament. Nearly a week later, far from calmed down, the controversy continues. In recent hours, PNV and EH Bildu have accused each other of spreading ‘incorrect’ information about the election of Gogora members.
In an interview in Euskadi Irratia, PNV parliamentary spokesman EH accused Bildu of “lying” about the election of Gogora’s members. The answer was not long in coming, and EH Bildu, through parliamentarian Oihana Etxebarrieta, has accused the country of making “malicious” use of the information.
“You have to tell the truth, and the other day EH Bildu didn’t tell the truth, he lied”said Diez Antxustegi. The Commission for Justice and Human Rights of the Basque Parliament elects five independent experts to the Board of Directors of the Institute for Memory, Coexistence and Human Rights. According to parliamentary spokesperson Jeltzale, the PNV has informed the coordinator of EH Bildu, Oihana Etxebarrieta, of its decision on the distribution of the members (two from the PNV, two from the PSE-EE and one from EH Bildu) and that they replied that ” Despite not sharing it, they understood the decision. Díez Antxustegi assures that they gave the choice between their two candidates for EH Bildu (Paco Etxeberria or Pilar Garaialde), but that the coalition answered no.
So things are, PNV and PSE-EE voted in favor of the candidate Paco Etxeberria and left out Pilar Garaialde (daughter of Paulo Garaialde, taxi driver murdered by Triple A). Díez Antxustegi explained that they chose Paco Etxebarria because he was already part of the Gogora Board of Directors and because they understood that they had to give the opportunity to continue, as well as two other members who were still there.
In the first response from EH Bildu Speaking to EITB Media, Oihana Etxebarrieta called Díez Antxustegi’s statements ‘unacceptable’. In the same way, he has accused him of making “malicious” use of the information, and of not respecting the majority of the Basque parliament. In any case, he wanted to focus on what was ‘important’.
Last Wednesday, the Commission for Justice and Human Rights of the Basque Parliament elected the five independent people to the Board of Directors of the Institute for Memory, Coexistence and Human Rights. There were six candidates for the Board of Directors, two proposed by the PNV, two more from EH Bildu and two more from the PSE-EE, and during the voting the candidate of the nationalist coalition Pilar Garaialde did not emerge first. For this reason, EH Bildu accused PNV and PSE of ‘discriminating’ against the state’s victims.
