Among other measures, the law will allow ETA prisoners to commute sentences served in France. Javier De Ándres has acknowledged that he was “unaware” and had caused “understandable disappointment” to those who trusted them.
The president of the PP of the Basque Country, Javier de Andrés, has asked for “forgiveness” for his party’s “dramatic” mistake in supporting the approval in Congress of the legal change to the criminal record that allows prisoners to be punished from abroad and that could benefit ETA prisoners who served their sentences in France.
De Andrés stated that “regardless of the responsibility of each party, the PP apologizes for being unaware and causing disappointment to those who trusted us.”
De Andrés believes what happened is the result of a “series of factors.” The president of the Basque PP believes that it is “very clear” that the change introduced “contradicts our criteria and changes what the PP put into effect in 2014”, to prevent ETA prisoners from completing their prison sentences Making France count.
However, he has criticized the Socialist Party and its partners for approving the standard “by their will, not by accident”, stating that “they will certainly ratify it in the second vote in Congress once it is in the Senate rejected.”
Andrés has blamed Justice Minister Félix Bolaños for his “lack of laughter”. According to him, “the trick they tried worked out well and they achieved what was agreed with Bildu, which was the release of terrorists.”
