The two government partners and the ‘popular’ partners ask the executive to present a plan to cover the 8,000 positions by 2027, taking into account upcoming retirements.
Amid accusations between the PSE-EE and the PP Basque for the photos of socialist victims of ETA that were shown yesterday by the spokesperson in Congress popular, Miguel Tellado, both groups and the PNV has reached an agreement in the Basque Parliament to urge the Security Department of the Basque Government to draw up a calendar of calls for action by March 2025 OPE in the Ertzaintza to cover all 8000 places of staff this period.
Specifically, the Chamber has asked for a plan to cover the vacancies and for a call calendar, taking into account the upcoming retirement of ertzainas until 2027 and the staffing needs in view of these positions at the end of the current legislative period . Both PP and Vox had submitted motions on the Ertzaintza staff, although ultimately only the PPs were approved after agreement with PNV and PSE-EE.
As the PP parliamentarian Ainhoa Domaica recalled: Currently the workforce is 7,412 ertzainascreating “a shortage of almost 600 officers” at a time of “record crime” and a “continued increase in crime”. Domaica as well as Jon Andoni Atutxa (PNV) and Miren Gallástegui (PSE-EE) expressed their satisfaction with the agreement reached between the signatories on the amendment that was adopted. Vox also voted in favor of the agreement.
Both EH Bildu and Sumar abstained from voting. As explained by the parliamentarian of the sovereigntist coalition, Julen Arzuaga, his group will wait for that calendar to study it.
