After several medical emergencies in the audience, a campaign event for US presidential candidate Donald Trump had to be canceled prematurely. Before that, the Republican tried to save the situation with music and dancing on stage.
The Pennsylvania event was designed as a town hall of sorts, moderated by South Dakota’s Republican governor and Trump supporter Kristi Noem.
“Ave Maria” during emergency relief
After more than half an hour and a series of questions from the audience, the first medical emergency occurred in the audience. Trump asked the director to play the song “Ave Maria” over the loudspeaker while paramedics attended to the stricken person. A short time later, a second medical emergency occurred on the other side of the stage. Trump and Noem complained about the high heat in the hall and asked security personnel to open the doors.
The event eventually ended. Trump and Noem did not immediately leave the stage, but remained there for a while. “Anyone else want to pass out?” Trump asked jokingly. He asked the director to play “Ave Maria” again and then asked for a whole bunch of other songs for him to dance to. “Let’s make this a music festival,” Trump said. Before leaving the room, he chatted with some of his followers.
Medical emergencies and, as a result, interruptions are common during election campaign events. Many visitors wait for hours before they are allowed in, security measures are strict and some people are reaching the end of their strength.
Pennsylvania is a controversial state
Pennsylvania is considered one of the crucial states in the election due to the close race between Trump and his Democratic rival Kamala Harris. In fact, some experts consider this the most important of all due to the large number of voters. Without a win in the state, which is characterized by a strong middle class, getting into the White House would be at least significantly more difficult. Harris also campaigned in Pennsylvania on Monday evening (local time).
The presidential elections will take place on November 5. According to polls, a very close race between Harris and Trump is expected.
