Date:

The spokesperson of the sovereigntist coalition in the Basque parliament, Pello Otxandiano, presented the offer and is convinced that “a phase of dialogue has begun”. EH Bildu has requested meetings from both the PNV and the PSE-EE and hoped they would take place “in the coming days”.

EH Bildu’s spokesperson in the Basque Parliament, Otxandiano hairhas presented its training proposal for a global agreement on budgets from 2025, which aims to “address some of the most pressing structural problems” in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa.

This initiative focuses on issues such as youth emancipation, care, housing and eco-social transition, with the aim of “correcting the course of public policies that have so far not provided an adequate response to the needs of citizens”.

Otxandiano appeared at a press conference in Donostia-San Sebastián, accompanied by Gipuzkoa spokespeople, Maddalen IriarteAlava, Eva López de Arroyabeand Bizkaia, Iker Casanovawhere he congratulated himself on the “good reception” of this proposal, made public last Friday, by his interlocutors.

He is therefore convinced that “a phase of dialogue is beginning” regarding the 2025 budgets. EH Bildu has requested meetings with both countries PNV as well as the PSE-EE and hopes that these will take place “in the coming days”.

EH Bildu’s proposal for a global agreement covers several areas of public policy, including guaranteeing the access to housing. To achieve this, the sovereign coalition believes that it is “essential to change the rules of the game in the real estate market”.

“It is not enough to simply stimulate supply if conditions do not change rules of the real estate market“We will not be able to fulfill the subjective right to housing, a right established by law,” Otxandiano defended.

Likewise, he has emphasized that “we must put an end to the speculation and rentier interests”, which “requires regulation to intervene in the real estate market, as the Bank of Spain said today with regard to the rental market”.

This is how EH Bildu advocates “limit rental prices, mobilize vacant properties, put a limit on tourist apartmentsand, above all, allocate all public resources to provide us with a public housing stock available to the market in the form of rentals.”

Second, commit to the founding an ‘own’ interprofessional minimum wage and pointed out that, although there is no power to do so in the Basque Autonomous Community, “this can be done by exercising sovereignty”. As he explained, the way to implement an SMI in the three areas “in accordance with our socio-economic characteristics” is “an interprofessional agreement between employers and trade unions.”

Thirdly, Pello Otxandiano has emphasized the need to move towards a “Common public system” that “guarantees the dignity of users, as well as that of workers in the sector.” To this end, he believed that “it is time to propose structural changes regarding access to services and improving the quality of benefits, such as, for example, eliminating the lucrative interest in providing social services.”

Regarding family benefits, EH Bildu believes that it is “essential” to reach agreement on a new benefit system“redefining various tax credits that currently exist and the government support that is currently in place.”

This also applies to the ecosocial transitionthe sovereigntist coalition is determined to take “a step forward” in light of the current “blockade situation” regarding the use of renewable energy sources“at a time that is crucial for the energy transition.”

In his opinion, this requires public planning to define ‘what deployment of renewable energies we want to make, and this must be done together with the people, and that requires a deliberative process on a scale not known in the recent history of this crisis . country”. “It must be an orderly and coherent democratic and democratic commitment in terms of the country,” he added.

EH Bildu also bets on a “sustainable, public and accessible mobility” and for one food system “healthy and kilometer zero that can connect consumption with production,” for which he has urged the implementation of “effective public policies and community strategies.”
