As EITB has learned, the former mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz has accepted the proposal of several municipal organizations to move to the second phase of the internal process.
The former mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz Gorka Urtaran has agreed to move to the second phase of the internal process to lead the Araba Buru Batzar of the PNV after accepting the proposal from various municipal organizations, as EITB has learned.
Urtaran made this decision after deep reflection and after listening to the bodies of various municipal organizations.
Thus, in the next phase of the process, the former first mayor will face the official candidate, the Regional Deputy for Equality, Basque Country and Governance, Jon Berriozabal.
ABB Presidency sources have welcomed the decision “normally” and recalled that in previous processes there had also been more than one candidate in the second round.
Berriozabal won majority support in the votes held last week in the PNV municipal organizations after winning the four batzokis of the capital Alava, the ones with the most membership in this area. At the end of the first round, Berriozabal has won in 37 organizations, while the former mayor has won in 12.
The second round of the internal process to renew the ABB will take place between November 8 and 20, to conclude the process with the General Meetings that will take place on the 23, during which the internal positions will be finally elected.
The current chairman of ABB, José Antonio Susohas already announced that he would not choose to remain in office even if members submitted and supported his candidacy.
