Markus Wallner, chairman of the ÖVP state party, was confirmed as head of government of Vorarlberg for the third time on Wednesday during the constituent session of the state parliament. Just like five years ago, he received 26 out of 36 votes, but this time he could only count on the support of the ÖVP and FPÖ MPs, while the Greens, SPÖ and NEOS did not vote for him.
After the coalition negotiations between the ÖVP and FPÖ, the new black-blue state government was elected. This marks the end of the Greens’ ten-year rule. Barbara Schöbi-Fink, Christian Gantner, Marco Tittler and Martina Rüscher remain in the ÖVP team, while FPÖ state leader Christof Bitschi enters the government as deputy state governor and Daniel Allgäuer.
At the beginning of the meeting, Harald Sonderegger (ÖVP) was re-elected as Speaker of the State Parliament; this is his third term in office. He received 26 out of 36 votes (2019: 25), i.e. those of the ÖVP and FPÖ. The new Presidium of the State Parliament also includes Hubert Kinz of the Freedom Party as the first elected Vice President (30 out of 36 votes) and, as before, Monika Vonier of the ÖVP as the second elected Vice President. Vonier received unanimous confidence.
