The change of power in the US is taking the first steps. After his election victory, Donald Trump quickly appointed former campaign manager Susan Wiles as chief of staff.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history and was an integral part of my successful 2016 and 2020 campaigns,” the Republican said. Wiles would be the first woman to hold this position.
In this job, the 67-year-old will have a lot of power in the White House. The office controls access to the Commander in Chief and the Oval Office, making it one of the key positions for any government. As a political strategist, Wiles has been part of Trump’s inner circle for years. During his first term there were many dismissals, including in the position of chief of staff. Trump had four in total.
Discussions with ministerial candidates
Trump is conducting numerous conversations with candidates for ministerial positions and other important positions in the future government. Several names of strident Trump allies who could take important positions are floating around — including tech billionaire Elon Musk, Germany’s controversial ex-ambassador Richard Grenell, and anti-vaccination activist and interim presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. Republican Senator Marco Rubio is said to be in talks to become the new secretary of state, while Trump’s loyal former chief diplomat Mike Pompeo is in discussions about the important defense portfolio.
With his new administration, 78-year-old Trump wants to fulfill his election campaign promises, including the rapid and large-scale deportation of migrants from the US. Trump told NBC TV that this was a priority: “It’s not a matter of price. It’s not a matter of price; we really have no choice.” Another report said Trump is relying on private companies to set up deportation centers where people will stay until they leave the United States.
Telephone conversations with approximately seventy heads of state and government
According to his own statements, the US president-elect has so far spoken with approximately seventy heads of state and government. They included Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but not Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin. Trump told NBC he expected a similar conversation to take place soon.
