The Basque government has begun the round of meetings with opposition groups to try to reach a budget deal, although the PNV and PSE executive have a sufficient majority to pass the bills alone. Last Monday he met with Sumar and PP.
After an hour’s meeting with the Minister of Finance and Finance, Noel d’Anjouthe president of the Basque PP, Javier de Andréshas noted that in the budget project, the situation of two departments that appear to be of crucial importance to citizens, such as Safety and Health, is “striking”.
In the first case, she warns that the initial budget in 2024 was EUR 790 million and that of 2025 was EUR 796 million, i.e. the increase compared to the initial budget is 0.75%. In this sense, the Popular Party has requested, “due to the need to strengthen human resources policy with the aim of reaching 8,000 Ertzaintza agents and improving the supply of materials at their disposal”, that the Security will agree to the general budget increase of together with 4, 7% would match. with the increase in the CPI in 2025 (2.3%), that is, 7%.
The security budget would therefore amount to 845 million, 49 million more than budgeted.
In Healththe original budget for 2024 is 4.9 billion, and that for 2025 is 5.115 million euros, 4.39% more. At this point, the popular people believe that, “due to the urgent needs of the Basque healthcare that the Health Table is working on”, the overall increase in budgets of 4.7% will also be equalized with the increase in the CPI in 2025 ( 2.3%). %). According to their calculations, the health care budget would therefore amount to 5,243 million, i.e. 128 more than budgeted.
After listening and receiving their proposal, Councilor d’Anjou asked them if they had thought about where to get or deduct that amount, but the Popular Party did not know how to respond. In any case, the government has emphasized that it will analyze the issue and come up with a negotiating proposal.
For its part, the Sumar lawmaker Jon Hernándeznoted that it attracted their attention that the Executive referred to “Euskadi berria” (new Euskadi) during the presentation ceremony, because in his opinion they are “old” bills, very similar to the bills he approved. the Basque government in recent years”.
The sole parliamentarian from Sumar has explained that although they will not support them at the moment because these are “not the budgets that Euskadi needs”, they will send the government their proposals so that there are substantial changes in seven policies.
The areas are housing, Osakidetza, public education, the fight against climate change, transportation and various cross-cutting policies to help combat the rising cost of living. “We have not seen the government up close, both parties have recognized the great distance that exists.” For his part, counsel has shown “his absolute willingness” to analyze the proposals.
While waiting for the government’s response, Hernández has announced that he is expected to propose a change to the whole.
