European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced additional financial support for Syrian refugees in Turkey. “Another billion euros are on the way before 2024,” Von der Leyen said on Tuesday during a visit to Ankara.
The money will contribute to “migration and border management, including the voluntary return of Syrian refugees,” she added.
This also applies to the training of refugees
In addition, the money will be used to finance healthcare and education for refugees in Turkey, as Von der Leyen explained.
The President of the European Commission traveled to Turkey on Tuesday to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The focus of the meeting was on the situation in Syria following the overthrow of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad. Like the EU, Turkey is counting on the return of Syrian refugees when the situation in the country stabilizes.
