Interim Chancellor Alexander Schneeberger will not travel to Donald Trump’s inauguration. He will be represented at the January 20 ceremony by Ambassador to Washington Petra Schneeberger.
This actually corresponds to a long-standing practice that Trump broke by inviting selected heads of state and government. On Thursday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Argentine President Javier Milei announced their intention to attend Trump’s inauguration on January 20 in Washington.
Both have a good relationship with Trump. Last weekend, Meloni paid the future American president a short visit to his private estate Mar-a-Lago in the state of Florida. Milei met Trump several times, including in February and November of the previous year.
Orbán “still thinking”
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is also part of the selected group. However, it was recently said from Budapest that the head of government had “not yet decided” whether he would actually travel. Chinese head of state Xi Jinping reportedly wants to send a “high-ranking representative” to Washington.
