Curious withdrawal – own application for free access to the sea sunk

Date:

Two years ago, the ÖVP and FPÖ submitted a joint proposal to the state parliament to prevent private investors from buying land close to the state and thus limiting open access to the lake. Now Black and Blue declared the application closed – even though nothing happened in the case.

When the ÖVP and FPÖ submit a joint motion in the state parliament, it is usually quickly adopted with the help of the black-blue mandate majority. Viewed in this way, the date of April 20, 2023 is an unusual exception.

At the time, the parliamentary groups ÖVP and FPÖ called on the state government to enact legislation that would grant local authorities – such as states or municipalities – a right of first refusal if attractive real estate or lake properties from state-affiliated companies were for sale to stand. This was intended to prevent private investors from further restricting access to our lakes.

Vote postponed repeatedly
Nearly two years have passed since then, but according to Greens club president Severin Mayr, nothing has happened. The vote on the application was repeatedly postponed, postponed, postponed and a legal opinion was obtained. Although it stated that no right of first refusal could be governed by a state law, there was certainly the possibility of issuing orders for action to the bodies of state entrepreneurs. Moreover, a resolution could have been addressed to the federal government, where the powers lie.

Formally declared complete
But it was apparently not worth the effort: On Thursday, the ÖVP and FPÖ in the committee formally declared the outstanding issue closed – and thus rejected their own application.
