After the United States, the Argentinian government now wants to ban gender conversions for minors. A government spokesperson said that a corresponding law of 2012 should be amended. It is about hormone treatments and operations for body adjustment for people under the age of 18.
Such treatments would be a “serious risk” for the physical and mental health of minors, the Government spokesperson Manuel Adomi said on Wednesday (local time). Countries that have already limited the gender conversion for minors are Finland, Sweden, Great Britain and the US.
In the future, prisoners must also be forbidden to request a move “because of gender conversion”. A prisoner who is trapped in a men’s prison can then “no longer ask to be moved to a women’s department just because he regards himself as one,” said Adorni.
Until now, legal guardians have to agree
According to previously applicable legislation, small treatments can be used for gender conversion if their legal guardians or a judicial authority agree. The decision of the Argentinian government was a week after the US President Donald Trump had limited the treatments for gender adjustment for minors under the age of 19 to minors.
The President Javier Milei is considered an admirer of Trump, most recently he held on to the so -called awake ideology at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
