FPö Boss Herbert Kickl dealt with his government mandate received by Alexander van der Bellen on Wednesday afternoon. In a letter to the federal president, he explained his failure of the coalition negotiations with the ÖVP. Here is the entire letter in the formulation.
Following the letter to kick the federal president, who was presented by Van der Bellen in the course of the conversation:
Dear federal president!
On January 6, 2025, they gave me the assignment to form a stable and future -oriented government.
With the ÖVP we were looking for the conversation with the intention of quickly coming to a powerful federal government after a tight schedule. Together we wanted to go back Austria to the head of Europe – economically strong, socially responsible and with a migration policy that protects the interests of our country and its people.
In a first step we have succeeded in averting an approaching EU deficiency procedure with a clear consolidation path and thus saving both the economy and citizens. The negotiations in content were then started in 13 subgroups.
Before the still controversial points could be clarified at the main negotiator level, the ÖVP was on the department to clarify the distribution of the department at the beginning of February. We presented a corresponding version on 4 February 2025. Although we met on many points in the subsequent discussions about the ÖVP, the negotiations about our regret were ultimately not successful.
That is why today, on 12 February 2025, I dealt with the order for the formation of the government.
I don’t take this step without regrets. However, we do not see negotiations with the Spö as targeted. The provisional conversations with Andreas Babler have shown that not only our positions are far apart on crucial points, but the Spö in general takes a negative position in every cooperation with the FPö. Nothing has changed since the elections. Austria has no time to lose.
Kind regards,
Herbert Kickl
Federal party chairman of the Freedom Party of Austria
