The public prosecutor in Vienna is investigating the former politician Peter Pilz for making false statements in the corruption commission ÖVP and is also leading him as a suspect. The questioning focused specifically on his relationship with Egisto Ott, a former official at the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (BVT).
Pilz – like politicians from the FPÖ and NEOS – had been repeatedly accused of receiving information from Ott. The former Green politician and founder of the online magazine zackzack.at was one of the first to give information in the current U-Commission on March 3. There he had presented the mobile phone chats of former Interior Ministry chief of staff Michael Kloibmüller and had been questioned by the ÖVP about the relationship with Ott.
“This is a lie”
However, in an anonymous advertisement, Pilz’s statements were called into question. Pilz had stated that he did not personally know Ott until mid-2019. “This is a lie”, the author of the statement according to “Presse”. According to this information, Pilz would have received information about the Kurdish murders from Ott in 2009. In addition, Ott’s criminal file shows that he prepared questions for Peter Pilz in 2018 in connection with the BVT investigation committee.
Pilz also confirmed the investigations against him at APA’s request, but did not want to comment on the content for the time being. He spoke of a “legal scandal” and an insubstantial advertisement.
