Three of them in Europe – these countries have a mandatory military service for women

Date:

In many countries, military service is currently being discussed again, including an expansion of women. Denmark recently introduced one. It has been around in Israel since 1949 and many countries in Africa and Asia also employ women in military service.

There are currently three countries in Europe that have a mandatory military service for women: Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In the Netherlands, the compulsory military service was for both genera, but was canceled for everyone in 1997. In Norway, everyone has come to the train since 2015 and for 18 months.

The government of Sweden increased the duty that was only for men in 2010, but again introduced it in 2018 because of the Russian annexation of Crimea – this time for both women and men. The military service applies to everyone from the age of 18 and lasts between six and 15 months. From January 2026, women and men aged 18 and older have to go to the army in Denmark – between four and twelve months.

These European countries have a mandatory military service for women.

Exception for married people in Israel
The Israeli government introduced military service for women shortly after the state was established. This takes two years for women and at least 32 months for men. Women are subject to duty at the age of 18 and 19. If you want to choose fighting positions, you have to use yourself instead of two years. Non-Jewish, pregnant or married women are excluded. Women are already a third in the Israeli professional army.

On the African continent, both men and women have to go to the army in seven countries: Eritrea, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mozambique, Niger and on Cape Verde. Theoretically, the obligation also applies in Cote d’I IJire (Ivory Coast), but this one is forced by anyone. The duration is between twelve and 36 months.

Noord -Korea looks at the degree of training
In Asia there is a mandatory military service for women in four countries: Myanmar, China, East Timor and Noord -Korea. In Noord -Korea, the conversion can last up to five or in men up to seven years – depending on the level of education. In China, potential students can still do the service after studying.
