U “Kroon” already reported in advance, now the most important points are determined, according to which nurses are included in the regulation of the heavy employees. “A sign of respect and appreciation”, such as Minister of Social Affairs Korinna Schumann (Spö) explained in a press conference.
In the future, nurses can retire at the age of 60 if they have at least 45 years of insurance and have searched for at least ten years in the last 20 years.
So far, only activities with clear physical stress have been taken into account as heavy work (eg Shift Services with six night shifts per month, certain calorie limits in physical work). These criteria are now objectified and psychological stress and multiple taxes are also included.
Even better recognition of worked hours and services is planned, said Schumann Minister of Social Affairs. In the future, the federal government also wants to decide measures to improve working hours and the duty roster, relief from more staff and a general attractiveness of the nursing profession for future generations.
There are currently 173,000 nurses in the country. An updated prognosis of the personnel requirement from 2023 (commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs, carried out by Health Austria) shows that by 2030 Austria will need about 51,000 extra care and care workers.
