Absolute majority – Albania’s Prime Minister Rama competes in four times

Prime Minister Edi Rama clearly won the parliamentary elections in Albania. His socialist party (PS) reached the absolute majority, in second place the opposition Democratic Party (PD) of former Minister Prime Minister Sali Berisha landed.

Rama and his socialists were able to expand their result compared to the previous elections and are now coming to a majority of the government. The prime minister, who secured a fourth term, benefited that the opposition was being distributed. Moreover, he was able to build an influential network in twelve years.

International observers of the organization for safety and cooperation in Europe (OSCE) praised the handling on election day, but doubted that the election was free. “Public resources and institutional power” were abused in the election campaign. Reports about “pressure on state employees and other voters, as well as cases of intimidation” were also received.

Corruption of one of the biggest problems
The opponents of Rama will have to rule the country through a system of favoring and not hire corruption and unemployment. In fact, hundreds of thousands of Albanians have been looking for better perspectives since he took office.

Young voters in particular reject Rama and his opponents Berisha. Berisha was also accused of corruption, he was arrested until last fall. Experts see one of the biggest problems in the country in widespread corruption. Criminal gangs earn billions with drug and arms trade abroad and bring them back to Albania for money laundering.

Rama of the Tourismian tree in recent years and the increasing trade with the EU is taken into account as a success. Albania has been a member of NATO since 2009 and has been negotiating EU TOODING for three years.
