Government Trio wants to tackle reforms quickly: Finance, health, education and the energy sector are on the agenda – the Chancellor represents a line that is unusual in the ÖVP.
The structural reforms were painfully missed in the billions of savings. The governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, organized his comrade Minister of Finance Markus Marterbauer and Vice Chancellor Andreas Babler a “missed opportunity”.
As the “Krone” learned from the government circles, the missing reform course must be started on 6 June at the Gazard Colleague conference. “Renovating, reforming, growing and investing” is the new motto of the top government.
Energy reform is required for data independence
Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP), Vice-Chancellor Babler (Spö) and Neos boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger would like to negotiate the stability spact exposed during the pandemic. Against the fall, new rules of the game must be faced with a sustainable budget policy between federal and national governments. “Stocker is independent and wants to go through reforms,” said a Chancellery Insider.
In Salzburg at the Governor form, the reform of health must also be spoken in Salzburg. Education and adjustments in the administrative area are on the reform agenda of the coalition trio.
A concern is a reorganization of the energy sector. Here he strives for ideas that are atypical for the DNA of the ÖVP. “If we need even more electricity for artificial intelligence and server farms to become independent of the US in the future, the energy industry cannot only remain in the hands of the private sector,” said a confidant of the Chancellor. Stocker is in favor of a “slim state”, but where he is active, the “state is a strong player”.
In the third step, parallel to the reforms, people want to stimulate the economic engine. However, no growth turbo will be promised, but a policy of small steps – where you want to develop well -considered strategies. “Given the impossible rates – keyword rates – a great promise of growth would probably be an empty promise,” one hears from government circles. Stocker prefers to drive in sight.
