Exit decides – Hungary turns away from the criminal court

Date:

The Parliament of Hungary officially decided on Tuesday to leave the International Criminal Court (ICC). The government had already announced this step at the beginning of April – on the same day when the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin visited Netanyahu.

The Istgh had imposed an arrest warrant against Netanyahu because of the procedure in the Gaza war, but did not carry out the Hungary. This arrest warrant is “politically unacceptable,” said Hungary Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó on Tuesday. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also supports Netanyahus’s procedure in the war. As a member of the European Union, the Hungarian Government has repeatedly blocked resolutions that are statements for Wapenrust in the Gaza Strip and more attention for the Palestinian civilian population.

The International Criminal Court in The Hague strives for suspects for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and war aggression. This includes politically and militarily responsible. State and government heads cannot rely on immunity.

First European dismissal
The government of Hungary had ratified the text on the basis of which the Istgh was built in 2001. The statute must be announced as a law in Hungarian official magazine, but this has never happened. Hungary is the first European country to leave the world -criminal court. Until now, only the Philippines and the African Burundi have left the Criminal Court.
