New financing rules – these communities can get money from the federal government

Date:

The Austrian city council is running in Eisenstadt. By Friday, mayors and representatives of the federal states and the federal government will discuss finance, climate crisis and equality. Topics are also the planned changes in subsidies for the municipalities.

The government is changing the local investment law, so that municipalities are easier to get from the federal government. However, it is not fresh money – as is known – that is not available -, but the already promised agents can be picked up much more easily and can be used flexibly. All in all it is almost 900 million.

Existing financing pots are being tappedT
In particular, it is the funds of the three municipal investment laws in recent years, some of which have not been collected, because the municipalities were unable to or do not want to manage the co-financing of 20 to 50 percent. The target fairs are now being converted into direct financial assignments and the CO financing is eliminated.

Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer argues the flexibility for the use of funds. The only requirement is that the funds are actually invested, which is then checked. The Minister of Finance would welcome measures that the municipalities will save in the future, for example when generating electricity, or also make them more interesting for inflow, for example by the expansion of childcare.

While the Municipal Association of President Johannes Presl naturally welcomes the new rules, the Greens think a climate amount of climate. The funds would help the communities “to win the upper water again,” said Presl. It is also clear to the Secretary General Thomas Weninger of the Stadsvereniging that the financial situation must be improved and stabilized. However, further steps will be necessary, he referred to the negotiations on the stability pact, which will start soon.

Here you will find the entire list of financial assignments:

The greens see it very differently: “The conversion of the intended climate promotions for communities to promote the water is a sad step backwards. The financial situation of the communities is tense. But now that investing subsidies such as a one -off payment through water cannot resolve. Elisabeth Götze, spokeswoman for the Groenen.

“The Minister of Finance chooses the simple way and will postpone the problem in the future. The municipalities will pay.
